A well-known beer brand approached Doyoupacks, requesting that we design a safe, portable, and easy-to-display Beer Cartons for their six glass beer bottles, combining brand display with load-bearing capacity, anti-drop, and impact resistance. The number of bottles can be customized; we can customize 4-Pack, 6-Pack, 12-Pack, 24-Pack, and more.

This isn't your average folding cardboard box; it's a packaging designed for glass bottle transport and retail display. The core purpose of this Beer Cartons structure isn't simply to wrap up the beer, but rather to address four key issues: load-bearing capacity, limiting bottle movement, reducing bottle collisions, and providing shelf space.

Front and rear main display panels

Cover the lower half of the bottles, approximately below the shoulders, mainly for brand display and lateral restraint.

The weight of the 6 bottles is ultimately supported by the bottom panel and side walls together, rather than being carried solely by the glued seam.

 

Specially customized materials

The most easily overlooked aspect of this type of packaging for laypeople is the materials: six 12 fl oz bottles, or approximately 355 ml x 6. The beer alone weighs about 2.1 kg, and with the six glass bottles themselves, the complete package typically weighs around 3.2–4 kg. Therefore, the cardboard for this type of Beer Packaging must not only be stiff but also have high tensile strength and tear resistance, especially since chilled beer will condense after being taken out of the freezer. If ordinary 300–350 gsm white cardboard is used, its stiffness and tear resistance will decrease rapidly after being exposed to moisture, easily causing damage to handles, neck holes, and creases. This type of packaging more commonly uses specialized high-strength virgin fiber cardboard, approximately 18–24 pt, or about 450–600 gsm.

Packaging structure particularly suitable for glass beer bottles

The die-cutting template for these 6 Pack Bottle Carriers isn't simply a rectangular box. Instead, it uses side panels, bottle shoulder positioning, bottom dimensions, and internal restraint structures to control the movement space of each bottle. The bottom must also consider the bottle diameter. Assuming a bottle diameter of approximately 60–65 mm, with three bottles arranged horizontally, the net bottle dimensions alone would need to be approximately 180–195 mm. Adding gaps, paper thickness, and folds, the die-cutting template dimensions need to be tested based on actual bottle samples, and cannot be designed directly based on a "355 ml bottle" design.

 

Adhesive technology for high-speed beverage packaging systems

Doyoupacks typically process beer packs through printing, die-cutting, waste removal, folding, box gluing, flat or pre-formed shipment. These packs then go to the beer bottling plant, where the packaging process is automated on the production line. Whether it's mechanical bottom locking, pre-gluing, hot melt adhesive, or a combination method depends on the die-cutting die and packaging equipment. Large beer brands aren't primarily concerned with whether Beer Packs can be folded manually; rather, they're concerned with whether the carrier can reliably operate on a high-speed packaging line.

Q1 What should I confirm before customizing 6-pack beer packaging?

A1 For small and growing beer brands, a good 6-pack is more than just pretty printing. Before starting development, it's best to confirm these details with Doyoupacks :

1. Does the packaging need to be moisture-resistant and abrasion-resistant?

2. Is it primarily for retail or shipping?

3. Does it need to be compatible with automated packaging lines?

4. What are the actual bottle shape and size?

The earlier these questions are confirmed, the lower the probability of later structural modifications, color rework, packaging line incompatibility, and additional costs.

 

Q2: Does this type of Beer Cartons require lamination, UV coating, or hot stamping?

A2 It’s usually not the focus. Bottle paper carriers are used in completely different environments than perfume boxes or gift boxes.

These finishes frequently experience refrigeration, supermarket shelves, conveyor belt friction, warehouse handling, and consumer handling. Therefore, compared to hot stamping, embossing, spot UV coating, or lamination, this type of packaging usually requires more attention to abrasion resistance, moisture resistance, and printability. More common surface treatments include, Water-based coating, OPV, Moisture-resistant coating, Rub-resistant varnish

 

Q3:Can production begin as long as the box can hold 6 bottles?

A3:No. This is especially important for beer brands preparing to implement automated packaging lines.

For large and growing beer brands, the quality of packaging isn't just about whether a person can fold it manually, but rather: Can this carrier run reliably on the packaging line? Factors truly affecting production efficiency include:

Feeding stability

Erecting accuracy

Glue position

Folding memory

Dimensional tolerance

Die-cut accuracy

 

For example, a slight deviation in the die-cutting line position might not be noticeable during manual assembly, but on a high-speed packaging line, it can cause jams,prevent smooth box opening, bottle insertion failure, glue misalignment, packaging deformation, and frequent downtime. For breweries, a lower unit price for packaging doesn't necessarily mean lower overall costs. If packaging causes continuous production line downtime, the losses often far exceed the cost of the cardboard box itself.

 

Q4: What should brand clients pay attention to?

A4: If you are using automated cartoning equipment, it's best to inform the supplier in advance of:

Packaging machine model

Packing speed

Carton feeding method

Gluing method

Existing dieline or reference sample

Before mass production, it's advisable to arrange a machine trial/packaging line test.

 

Q5: Can all 355ml beer bottles share the same 6-pack?

A5: Not necessarily.

Same capacity doesn't mean the same bottle shape. A 355ml beer bottle can have different body diameters, shoulder heights, neck diameters, and overall heights. These dimensions affect the 6-pack carrier's bottle clearance, positioning, bottom load-bearing capacity, and overall structure. Designing directly based on "355ml" might result in bottles that are too loose and wobble, or too tight for proper packing.

Therefore, it's best to provide the following before customization: Bottle drawing / CAD / technical dimensions / physical bottle samples. If possible, it's recommended to send actual empty bottles to the packaging supplier for fit testing and structural prototyping.
